We will pay attention to lay-out: find out how to communicate with shapes and colours in order to help your public find logical ways through the texts and visuals. We will also look at artwork for cultural or commercial purposes and learn from these examples how a poster or cover can have impact at the first sight and can communicate in a clear way upon a closer look. Together with exercises in creating your own compositions you will learn the basic tools of InDesign. And how you can take advantage of the two dimensional space of a poster to tell a non-linear story. It is recommended to attend the course T1.A7 ‘Data Visualisations: A Practical Approach’ in advance, so you will have had the opportunity to design good visuals you can use on your poster.īefore we start with the design of a scientific poster, we will get inspired by (abstract) paintings to learn about composition, use of colour, shapes and space: how the division of the space can support the structure of the story you want to tell. We will also pay attention to composition and observe different ways of looking in order to get known how you can be effective in visual communication. In this course you will learn how to design your scientific posters or the cover for a thesis with Adobe InDesign in order to create a technically professional printable file.
